Re: Do You Dress for "Work?"

A lot of it depends on your background, I think. People who spent a lot of time in a W-2 job before going freelance probably (usually) have strong associations between getting fully dressed and working. I've been working from home in various capacities for a long time (punctuated with a couple of sh...

Re: Theft left and right..

I imagine that the real Reuters would be none too pleased to find out that their name is contained in the URL of a plagiarism mill. After all, numerous companies have shut down sites that contain their trademark. No idea if "Reuters" is trademarked, though.

Re: Hi from a British born author

Could it be a marzipan pig? That's the only candy I can think of that's traditionally made in a pig shape.

Also, welcome Gaynor!

Re: Worst Writing Job Ever!

The worst ever was also one of my first freelance assignments, when Textbroker first opened. I signed up and was rated as a level 4 writer. They have five levels of writing, each of which qualifies for a different rate of pay, but I've never heard of anyone being rated higher than level 4. I did a f...

Re: New and slightly confused

The nice thing is you'll never get an article kicked back for content - just bad writing. How is being a title editor for DS? Are all those crazy titles human made or just computer generated? They're human generated, sort of. The "raw" titles are actually search terms, which are filtered ...

Re: AP Style - "Web site" is now "website"

It's true, and I'm glad! Unfortunately, IMO, the word "Web" is still capitalized when it's a single word. For example, "Web page" is still a two-word construction with "Web" capitalized, but website, webinar, webmaster, and some others are lowercase. Personally, I hope ...

Re: How much are we worth?

My dad ran several stores before he finally retired in his 70s. By the time he opened his last -- and most successful -- store in the early 1990s, he was getting really fed up with lowball offers. He put up a sign that read something like "What you see is what you pay -- sales tax included, all...

Re: New and slightly confused

lol Peggy, I did that too. I thought I was being helpful. xD Whooops! At least I'm not the only one :D I could grumble (like some have on these forums) about this being my first rejection, ever -- and out of the roughly 700 articles I've submitted to various markets, it is -- but I have a hard time...

Re: Question for 3 strikes rule

I've seen this question posted elsewhere on the forums, and the answer given was that photography and illustration rejections don't count towards the "three strikes".

It may have been an old post, though, so I have no idea if that's still the case.

New and slightly confused

Hi folks, I've been lurking on this site for some ridiculous length of time... Okay, that's not quite accurate. Let's try again. I've been registered at CC for a ridiculous length of time, considering that I just submitted my first article here on Thursday or Friday. When I first registered, I read ...
