Re: Subject- verb agreement
Thanks EFowler, sounds like you have a great background for writing those kind of articles. I tend to switch off when anyone starts talking about solar panels (mainly my father!!) so I'll have to do a bit of reading

Re: Subject- verb agreement
Thanks so much for that advice Isabel. I will definitely start researching some energy-related articles. I'm from Australia, so UK English isn't such a stretch for me!

Re: Subject- verb agreement
Thank you so much Abba! I really value your advice. I don't feel so confident writing energy-related articles, but as you said in your first response, I should not be put off by not knowing an enormous amount about a subject before I write on it. After all, that's what research, libraries and Google...

Re: Subject- verb agreement
Thanks so much Abba. I think I'll have a go at writing for standard requests. And perhaps also looking at recently sold articles and writing articles on the same topics. That might help. I'm not panicking or anything, I had just hoped I would have a first sale within a few weeks, and it hasn't happe...

Re: Subject- verb agreement
Thanks abba! It is chilly here, but no storms. I'm off to Melbourne today, so the weather there should be better. So, here is my question -- and please say if you don't feel comfortable answering it. I have had articles up on cc for a few weeks now, but have had no sales yet. I'm just wondering if I...

Re: Subject- verb agreement
Thanks for the encouragement Abba. I've just had an e-mail saying that my 6th article has been accepted, so I feel I am slowly learning the ropes here. I'm heartened that you are doing well on this site. I think I have to try to get a feel for the type of articles that sell, and the length they shou...

Re: Subject- verb agreement
Thanks SO much for that clarification. I will proceed with caution and have already changed the sentence to the passive voice, as you suggested. You say you live on the bottom of the world...could that be Australia, NZ or South Africa? (I'm Australian).

Re: Subject- verb agreement
ps thanks for your encouragement Abbamay. It looks like you are relatively new around here as well. It's a steep learning curve, but I'm really enjoying writing for CC!

Re: Subject- verb agreement
Thanks to you both! I like the idea of the passive sentence, but I'm a bit confused about something. Grammar isn't my strong point, so I'm probably wrong here, but isn't the plural "they" a problem? "A medical intuitive" is singular, so is it a pronoun - antecedent problem if I t...

Re: Subject- verb agreement
Thanks to you both. I think I'll try to cut them out. But here is one excerpt: "A medical intuitive may suggest that you return to your primary-care doctor for specific tests or treatments. He or she may also refer you to another health professional, such as a ... " Actually I think this i...

Subject- verb agreement
Hi, I'm wondering if it's ever OK to write "he or she" as part of a sentence in a CC article, to make sure there is subject/verb agreement. Or is this considered awkward wording? I am struggling with getting subject - verb agreement in a long article, and I have written "he or she&quo...

Good question! I'm in Australia and have also received e-mails when everyone in the U.S. is asleep. (Or awake with insomnia!)

quoting books in articles
Hello, I have a question about quoting from books in articles. Do any of you do this, and is the format below the right way to do it? (This isn't my writing, it's from someone else.) “If you start a positive habit and see that it has a positive effect upon your business or health outcomes, your brai...
