Re: Formatting questions
Hi, Hexxus -- I'm pretty new myself and haven't encountered precisely your problem, although I've had the program weirdly change my word count, even after I fixed and re-saved it. Unfortunately, it appears that you can't write notes to editors in original submissions. You can, however, write to them...

Re: Grammarly, ProWritingAid and Hemingway
Just for the heck of it, I pasted into Grammarly a paragraph from Christopher Buckley's newest novel, the Relic Master. Grammarly did find "significant plagiarism" (thank goodness), but it also found -- in a graph of no more than 150 words -- six "writing issues." I didn't sign u...

Re: Twiddling my thumbs
I also got hit for using "we." It's plural first person, I guess, and I can't argue that -- but I thought it worked well in the article.

Re: Yikes. Rejected, and a lesson learned. Maybe.
I did manage to find where I can post comments to the editor, but I may not bother. I think he or she and I will remain in disagreement about what's amusing and what isn't and I don't want to waste my time sounding petulant. But thanks for your responses -- they're appreciated.

Yikes. Rejected, and a lesson learned. Maybe.
Well, my first article for CC was rejected. I imagine that I could do a significant re-write, but I'm inclined to pass on that and to move on to something different. The problem was that the article is humor, and that successful humor is largely dependent upon style. The editor evidently didn't thin...

Re: Irritating and confusing
Thank you, Lysis, but it doesn't explain yesterday's email. Does one of CC's hands not know what the other is doing? (I have to run out and may not see a response until the morning, but will look for it when I can)

Irritating and confusing
Hi again, all -- It seems like I'm the only newb who ever posts, but whatever. Yesterday around this time, I got an email from CC entitled, "What happened? Where did you go?" It asked if I was going to submit articles (and told me how excited CC is to have me in the fold, so to speak) and ...

Re: Twiddling my thumbs
Thanks again, Paul. Those tips will come in handy; I can use the structure. About "that." I see your point and will keep it in mind. At the same time, I tend to appreciate the word's usefulness at minimizing ambiguity. E.B. White's reminder, in The Elements of Style, comes to mind: "H...

Re: Twiddling my thumbs
Paul, thanks for that *very* useful response. Much appreciated.
My first submission, for what it's worth, was written in second person, which I understand is allowable and, in the case of my article, useful. I can't say that I understood your caution against using "that." Can you explain?

Twiddling my thumbs
Hello, all -- I submitted my first article four days ago and I'm planning on submitting two more tomorrow (that being Monday, 1/18). I have this strange worry, though, that nothing at all is happening. Is four days common for an article to sit unviewed by anybody but me? Is there a way to see if my ...

Confused about Hits
Hi, all -- I submitted my first article and see, in My Content, that it's received four hits. Since it hasn't yet been approved, I have to guess that the hits were not from prospective buyers. If that's the case, does it mean that four editors have looked at it and for some reason declined to review...

Flirting with Casting Call
Hello, all -- I'm brand new and have yet to submit an article. As I browsed the site I saw, in the list of requested articles, a topic that I know quite a lot about. It's listed, however, as Casting Call and of course I don't yet have five articles accepted. But is there any reason that I can't writ...
