Hello from Twain Harte, California

Post by TreeBones »

Hi everyone. I am looking forward to finding out how my skills and knowledge of the sawmill industry will fit in here. I have never considered myself a writer but have found I can share some of what I know with others and now will find out if it is worth anything. I'll be looking around this forum and hope to get to know people here.

Hi Treebones,

Welcome to CC! My suggestion to all newcomers, besides reading the forums and making sure you submit according to the submission guidelines, is to create a portfolio of articles on different topics. You are not just restricted to the sawmill industry, but can write about other things you do know too.

For example, you may be single and can write about the single life. You may be married, with children, grandchildren, pets, etc, which opens up many fields of interest to write about. You probably have credit cards, a mortgage, and loans, and can budget. (Money saving tips are popular at the moment due to the big R word!). I assume you know something about computers because you have used a computer to write in the forum. You will be surprised at just what you do know and can write short articles about. For example, last month, my husband and I made pizza at home. I zipped off a quick article on how to make gourmet pizza at home and the article sold for $35 for full rights within a day of being approved. First meal I've ever made a profit on (but you can guarantee that now I've found CC it won't be the last!).

Write a few different articles in each area that interests you, and see how you go. The more you submit articles, the more you sell. Some articles sell after a few months, and others will sell almost straight away. Either way, it's fun to check your emails or on the recently sold list and see your article has been sold!

Anyway, that's my two cents worth!

Best of luck here,

Kind regards,
Hayley
