Introducing myself--hello!

Hello dear CCers,

So glad to have stumbled across this website. I've been writing at Helium off and on for a few months, and although I did sell one article there the masses of highly-ranked poor writing can be...well, disheartening! I'm half-and-half American-Portuguese, now living in Nepal, with a background in creative writing but a strong interest in non-fiction. I was recently fired from a mind-numbingly uncreative office job while on medical leave--what's it called again when they kick you when you're down? :) Anyway, I'm hoping to take the opportunity to make a real go at freelance writing. I've been reading the forums and it sounds like plenty of people manage to make a living quite well here...that's encouraging!

Just submitted my first article. The first of many, I hope. Thanks for reading; sounds like a really friendly bunch here and I look forward to being part of the community.

Welcome Antonia,

The friendliness of authors on this forum is definitely an asset for C-C. I think it's also pretty cool that members are spread out into the far reaches of the world (Nepal!).
Here's hoping that being fired from a dead-end job will be the best thing that ever happened to you. Be sure to look or ask for help in the forums when you need it.

Celeste and Emma, thanks for the nice welcome. I've got two articles in review and am holding off on submitting a third until I know the status--what if they were all rejected at the same time and I lost my chance to submit anything else! :P In the meantime I've been browsing the forums and looking at the Recently Sold list. Looks like I'm addicted to C-C already. Cheers!
