New Here
I am new to this site, and look forward to writing some articles. Most of my experience in writing has been academic (studying history and public policy). I fully realize that this is a different audience, so I will keep that in mind as I write. Otherwise, I'm new to such an endeavor and hope to figure out an acceptable way to express myself within the CC guidelines.

Re: New Here
Hi,
Welcome to CC. While writing for websites and magazines requires a different style of writing than academic writing, you may find a niche in writing articles about history or public policy. There are a number of public requests today, for example, on various US presidents that would suit your researching skills into both categories.
You can also write about many other subjects that you happen to know about. Articles on using Twitter have sold well recently. Personally, I have sold articles on a range of topics like romance, book and movie reviews, making pizza at home, reducing credit card debt, and freelancing - all from my own experience. I also write on business management, which is an area of expertise from my 'day job'. Just make sure you write in the second or third person point of view (avoid the first point of view with I).
Explore the range of categories CC has available for articles. You can write about almost anything - travel, home, pets, cooking, personal finance, relationships, parenting, etc. You may be surprised at how many categories you could write articles for from your own knowledge, supplemented with research.
Hope this helps,
Hayley

Re: New Here
Hayley,
Thanks for your advice. I submitted my first article, and was anxiously awaiting a rejection for some reason or another. After all, what are the odds that I didn't violate some rule the first time around? After a few days, I received notice of its acceptance. What a thrill!
I just submitted my second article on a completely unrelated topic. We'll see what happens.
