Hi all. I recently joined CC and thought I'd drop in and say hello. My name is Julie and I come from Utah. I am definitely new to freelance writing, but not writing in general. I write fiction so this will be a new experience for me, but one I am going to enjoy. So, any advice would be great, and i do have one question. How on earth do you decide what topics you are going to write articles on?

Keep reading the forums and you will see that many authors struggle with "what the heck do I write about today?". Many suggest writing for public requests first to get started submitting and going through the approval/sale process. Check out the CC Blog, where there is a top ten list of article topics that have been selling over the years. I'd start by deciding what interests you the most. Are you a parent and have you read every parenting magazine you can find? Are you really good at saving money? An avid gardener? Love your pets? Write an article or two on the topics you search for on the internet. There is a market for almost anything on this site. Who knows, you may create your own, original niche.

Half of my articles have been about real estate. Why? I don't know except they sold easily and so I kept writing. "Mortgages available to the potential homebuyer", "Defining the Reverse Mortgage", "How to Stage Your Home for Sale" have been a staple so far for me. It's not that you have to come up with completely new ideas, it is that your content has to be original text wise.

Good luck with your writing!
