...from Portugal, a newbie landed on CC!

Hi! I am a new writer here. My name is Acacio and I am from Lisbon, Portugal. I've always liked writing and I was looking for a site where I could write AND have some cash in.
After stubling upon your site, I've checked it out...and here I am! My English is quite rusty but I believe I will change that, by sending lots of articles and receiving lots of rejections...for bad grammar! :D

Hi D and welcome. Just a word of warning - too many rejections will get you banned (not sure how much of a joke that was in your post, which seemed to be well worded and only had one typo). If you're serious, what you need is a buddy here to help you out before you submit. This has been the case for other authors and makes life easier for Ed. Read through the forums so you can see what I mean and get some answers to questions you might have. Best of luck.

Welcome aboard...

You're in luck. There is quite a bit of difference between the 'Queen's English' and 'Americanese' (as it's called by scholars outside the US). That'll give you some latitude.

The first three articles I submitted here were rejected. I 'fixed' them and resubmitted. After they were accepted, I was off on my CC adventure. Since then I've had several rejections (usually for minor screw-ups), but I do try. You'll also find that this site is addictive.

Bad grammar and awkward wording. Well, back to school! :\
Maybe I'll need some extra help. A spell check or a grammar check on M$Office,perhaps? Or get some help?

I would like to continue this writing adventure, however I can't go on like this. Or can I?

Sorry to hear that. There are other writing sites that aren't as strict as CC where you can brush up on those English writing skills.

I often wonder, about English as a second language writers in general not necessarily you, are there not writing opportunities in other languages? I couldn't imagine trying to write in French, Portugese, or Russian, but don't France, Portugal, and Russia have websites that need content? If so, there must be a market for native writers in those languages.

Ms. Stewart, if there were any market for Portuguese content I think I wouldn't be here trying...nothing personal.
About sites where I can "brush up" my English skills...any suggestion?

Yeah, that's what I figured.

You might try Associated Content. They have guidelines but they aren't as strict. Taking an English composition course at your local community college might help you identify the nuances of English writing as well as you brush up on your skills. Even an online course might help.

I will try Associated Content. However I think I will retry on CC. My English is just too rusty for 500 words and lots of phrases, I guess. But for forum posting i presume it's fine, is it not? I need to practice more: writing, reading, translating.
