Hello everyone. I'm another newbie and I'm so chuffed to have found CC. After hunting around for a decent freelance writing site that will pay UK writers, this one seems to be head and shoulders above the rest.
I've been lurking around the forums since I joined last week, and I'm pleased to report that your tips have helped me aready. I received my first offer on an article today and I was absolutely buzzing that someone was interested in purchasing an item from litte old me. When I looked at the detail though, they were only offering me $10 for full rights, (I had asked for $30). I was so close to accepting, just for the sheer thrill of having sold a feature. Then, when I calmed down a bit, I thought back to comments I'd read on here about underselling yourself and I decided to reject the offer. I'm so glad that I did. While I'm happy to take a lower figure, I would definitely feel cheated if I'd caved in and sold full rights for so little. Without the forums, I don't think I would have been as brave!
Thanks for that.
Mandy

Hi Mandy,
Welcome to CC! I'm new here, as well. I've been here around 3 weeks, and I absolutely love it. I'm ecstatic that I found CC and plan to be here a long time. It sounds like you feel the same.
The urge to get that first sale under your belt can be overwhelming, especially for us newbies, but I think you absolutely made the right decision in sticking to your guns about price. I've certainly noticed that some writers sell their work for pretty low prices, and that's certainly their right. However, I'm not going to accept a ridiculously low offer on something I've worked hard on to get just right.
So far, I've submitted 7 articles and had one sale. As much as I'd love to have more sales, I'm comfortable in knowing that those sales will begin to roll in as I build my portfolio here on CC.
Good luck in your new endeavor here at CC.
Happy Writing!
Lori

Thanks Lori, and well done on getting your first sale!
I think you're right, it's more important to build your portfolio, be patient and wait for decent sales. If you're planning on staying around for a while, (I am too), then there's no need to rush and 'panic sell.' No matter how tempting...
Here's hoping we both have a long and prosperous career with CC!
