Hello everyone,

I'm new here and haven't submitted any articles yet. I have been writing for Helium for about 2 years, but I've only been making about $2 an article and sometimes less. Obviously, the pay here is much better! I just graduated from college with a degree in communications and I'm planning to move to find a job soon, so I thought this could help me make some extra income. I was just wondering how to go about submitting my first articles. I was told I can't attach articles until I have five accepted, so do I just go under the submit article on the main page? And also, how do I know if it's a public or private article? And since I'm new here, should I set my rates to less than the amounts recommended?

I'm really anxious to get started here. I've done really well on Helium, but like I said, the pay is a lot less. Any help is appreciated!

Hi, Dakota. I had a quick glance at your Helium page -- it's quite impressive. I was making a go of writing there and AC two days ago, but only to the tune of 4 articles (3 on Helium) before I stepped back for a moment and searched for alternatives.

Anyway, I'm new to the site so definitely take my advice with a grain of salt, but for submissions (2 under my belt as of 15 minutes ago!) I've just used the submit link on the site-navigation bar. The articles I've written so far have been for requests, so I then select that category under the drop-down menu, and then the request I was targeting under the secondary menu that appears.

As far as whether it's a public article or not, I'm guessing that you meant request. In that case, I believe any request you're attempting to fill is going to be public until clients begin asking you for articles directly, in which case you'll receive a message. As far as rates go, I'm being fairly ambitious since I have a non-minimum wage in mind (and am a slow writer), but I've noticed at least one author so far who seems to start pricing at around .02/word for usage, with even full rights appearing to be a bargain to my eyes. It's pretty cool to be able to control my prices, but yes, freedom and uncertainty seem to go hand-in-hand for me as well.

Welcome Dakota and Chris! Dakota, there's no need to price yourself lower than anyone else just because you're new here. Take a look at your article - is it well written? Engaging? Does it meet the requester's requirements? If you're proud of it and believe it meets the customer's needs, then price it according to the requester's requested price.

Thank you both for the advice! The typical rates actually sound fantastic, especially considering I've written entire articles for the amount I could get per word here! haha...I can't wait to get started. Helium was good practice, but I'd really like to start making some money. And Chris, thanks for the compliments and its great to see another newbie! Well, I'm off to start writing.
