Font and Formatting

HI there,

I recently upgraded to Word 2007 and submitted my first article using this format. The default font on the new Word program is Calibri - which looks just like a rounded version of Arial. I forgot to amend the font to Arial or Times New Roman prior to submitting the article and it's now been rejected for it.

I have three other articles waiting to be reviewed in the SAME font (Calibri). Does this mean all three of those will now be rejected too for being in the wrong font?

Thanks for your quick reply Ed. I've deleted the articles I had waiting for review and modified the file type to Word 1997-2003 compatible and amended the font to Arial.

Is this likely to be more acceptable for submission purposes?

Either way is fine as long as the formatting guidelines are being followed.

Thanks again. I had no trouble submitting prior articles and getting them accepted with my old computer and old software. I shall remember to check the font type of any future submissions before I upload them from now on.

Not only is the font type (Calibri vs Times New Roman) an issue, but the file type (.doc vs .docx) as well. Looks like you figured that out but for others using Word 2007 it might not be so clear. The issue goes beyond the Calibri font. Definitely change the font to TImes New Roman and then save the file to the Word 97-2003 format (.doc). It's a pain at first, but you can also make the change permanent if you go to the Office button, click Word Options, click Save and then change the default file format.

You can also change the .normal.dot template to default to Times New Roman (while you're at it, change the paragraph spacing so that there are no extra points between paragraphs). Let me know if you need help on this. It's easy to change these finicky little details.
