Sports pun leads to title rejection

Post by jtc3k »

I recently submitted an article for a request on wedding favors. There were no mistakes in the article, but the title "Choosing Wedding Favors That Suit You to a Tee," was apparently misunderstood by the editor. I was told that the saying was "suits you to a T," and that "tee" was reserved for words such as "tee-shirt." The title referred to the sports themed wedding favors in the article, one of which was a "golf tee."

I mean, I suppose I could see the title being rejected on the grounds of bad taste. I mean, let the pun-ishment fit the crime, right? But come now, to be rejected because the editor misunderstood a simple play on words?

It's possible that the editor didn't read the article, but just rejected the title. If you feel strongly about the title, you might try submitting again with a note in the short summary explaining the pun. If it was me, I'd probably change the title completely to be on the safe side.

It is permitted to write notes to the editor in your short summary, which you can then delete once the article has been approved.

Thanks Jak.

I actually resubmitted with a new title just to be safe, but I'll keep the notes to the editor in mind for future articles.

@ Jak
Thank you for the tip about notes to the editor in the summary. Very useful indeed. Been wondering for some time as to how to communicate with the editor in case there is something I want to point out. Now I know.
