Questions about colons

Post by Mooreinspire »

I am changing the sentence to this:

All we need are a few specifics about the recipient from you; for example, age, hobbies and interests, occasion for gift, profession, and favorite things.

From this:

All we need are a few specifics about the recipient from you: age, hobbies and interests, occasion for gift, profession, and favorite things.

because it was the only colon-inclusive sentence I had not changed. I got this comment from the editor: This article has not been adequately revised. You still have colon errors. Please properly punctuate sentences.
Colons:http://www.grammarbook.com/punctuation/colons.asp and http://lilt.ilstu.edu/golson/punctuation/colon.html

Rule #1 on the link says: Rule 1. Use the colon after a complete sentence to introduce a list of items when introductory words such as namely, for example, or that is do not appear.
Examples: You may be required to bring many items: sleeping bags, pans, and warm clothing.
I want the following items: butter, sugar, and flour.
I want an assistant who can do the following: (1) input data, (2) write reports, and (3) complete tax forms.

As far as I can tell, I have a complete sentence in the first part of the sentence. Can someone PLEASE tell me what I am missing??

Frustrated colon lover. :(

I would re-write it as

"All we need from you are the following specifics about the recipient: age, ..."

That way is actually tighter and a bit more cohesive.
