Unsure of "You", "Your" Usage- Newbie

Post by genij80 »

Hey eveyone! I am really new to CC, and I am writing an article about women, confidence, sexuality, etc. My first draft was really good, very lively, but then I read about CC's submission guides, and the use of "You" "Your", and being overly conversational. I then revamped the article to avoid that voice, but it really lost alot along the way, and sounds stuffy and stilted. I am very frustrated. Can any CC vets out there please give me an idea of what is acceptable in this situation? The ariticle topic is kind of fun....and I would like to keep the flavor of my article. Thanks!

Actually, the use of "you" and "your" (second person voice) and being conversational is a good choice for the Web. I use second person voice here on CC all the time. Unless the article or Web page is for a super formal site, such as an investment banking firm, I think you'd be fine to go with a conversational style.

Ugh, I wish I hadn't ruined my article now! It sounds ultra formal. Thanks though! :D

Why "ruined"? Don't you still have a copy of the original draft? If they're different enough, you could even submit both and appeal to different customers.

I do have the original copy, but when I went back and looked at it, it did seem a little too informal. I blended both versions together for the final article, and I really like it better than before. Thanks again!
