Been on a nice roll of no rejections but got whacked twice today. One was for grammar and I shot the file over to that other computer where MS Word lives. Never used their grammar checker before but I thought I'd give it a whirl and it found a small, but glaring error.
Let's versus lets.
Sheepish grin. New thing to add to the "before Ed sees it" list: Run it through MS Word over yonder. Hopefully that will fix it.
Got four more articles ready to go and now I'm scared to submit them, LOL! Finally finished the fun facts research and am compiling it into a series of (standalone) articles. As the articles are more playful in their wording, I have no idea if they'll fly or not.
I think I'll hold them until I'm sure this one passes muster then maybe just submit one of them.
Grammar finally got me!

Isn't that a funny phenomenon? It's almost as if we become trigger-shy! I'm in the same position. I submitted an article that was a mess (because I'm primarily an idiot) and after it was rejected, I re-edited it and sent it back. Rejected, again. It took a while to work up the courage to submit a different one, but it's since been accepted. And accepted at 11pm, might I add. What the hell kind of schedule does Ed have? I now picture him/her locked in a CC cellar somewhere being forced to read our articles for 17 hours a day and only eating fish heads and rice cakes to survive. And I evidently have a vivid (and morbid?) imagination.
So, I'm equally terrified of submitting any more sub par content. While I understand that is the point of the 3-strikes rule, it doesn't assuage my nerves any But, it's really more of guideline, isn't it? Which also doesn't assuage any nerves, either.
Also, I'm not sure how Ed manages to read things at 11pm. That, after all, is how I ended up with the initial rejections Don't worry, I've much better revision habits now... hopefully. I just have to remember that CC doesn't have deadlines the way school has deadlines. A day or two either direction matters little to my grade!

The trick is that if something gets you once, try like the dickens not to let that same thing get you again. My computer doesn't have a grammar checker so all my articles all get sent to my sweetie's computer for that particular check. And it isn't foolproof. It flags things that are okay and you have to use common sense. But at least it prevents idiot errors such as "let's" vs "lets" that you should have caught. It's so easy to make a simple mistake or spell something wrong. No matter how good you are at spelling and grammar, it's easy to goof and the goal is to keep those goofs away from Ed.
When you start getting into the tickier rejections, you'll need a bigger thinking cap. Issues such as clarity can't be checked so easily. You need to look for that when you proofread.
I'm up to 28 accepted articles so even if your beginnings are a wee bit rocky, if you work at it and take Ed's advice to heart, you can do it.
