Should Acronyms Be Capitalized?

Post by RMcSwain »

I was a bit surprised today to receive a rejection of my article Search Engine Reputation Management. Usually, the articles I write in this area go through without a hitch. I do sometimes have issues when I attempt to write an article for public request when I am not a subject matter expert.

What really surprised me was to have a notation which mentioned absence of proper capitalization. I had capitalized acronyms, like SEO and SERM, as well as Meta tag.

I was also called out for being wordy and unclear in one area that presented a hypothetical situation, and that is obviously an editor's prerogative to make that call and I am rewriting that area. I am now wondering, however, if I need to change the acronyms to lower case, or was the capitalization thing just part of the canned reply?

Thanks,

Richard

If my memory serves me, this was not a widespread issue, but a limited one. "Twitter" in all lowercase letters may have been the culprit.

Thanks Ed.

I would have probabally missed that one again. Funny how some words have become proper names and require capitalization while other proper names have become verbs, as in to Google something.

I re-wrote those overly verbose paragraphs, and am sending it up again.

Thanks again for everything.
