Inconsistent Comma Editing

Post by sleslie »

I'm not the best at comma usage but I know the basic rules. The last three articles I've submitted were rejected for improper comma usage.

In one instance, the editor told me to remove the comma that followed an introductory subordinate clause, saying it was unnecessary. I disagreed with this, but edited as requested and resubmitted it. It was approved.

The next article was rejected for NOT using commas to set off introductory subordinate clauses in a few places.

The inconsistent editing recommendations are very confusing. This is not the first time my articles were rejected. This IS the first time I've been irritated by it because of editing inconsistency.

Perhaps the editors should all get together to review proper comma usage themselves?
