When will I have my name on the Author's List?
I had this same question shortly after I joined CC. I was told you have to have sell 5 articles with "unique" or "full rights" before you get on the list. Good luck and welcome aboard. (I'm not yet on the list but I am working on it.)

Author's list on the right hand side of CC's landing page
Hi Jane.
Yes I saw that post on the blog. So I've used the wrong wording. I don't mean the highest paid/most prolific author's list.
I'm talking about the alpha list of author names on the right hand side of CC's landing page. When I want to direct people to view my work on CC, my name is not up for them to click on so I have to send them the link to my page.

You should at least list anyone who has something for sale on the site. That is simply in your own best interest, as well as the interest of the writer. The way it is now, the authors list basically serves little purpose other than as a reward for those who scout buyers on their own, and if I am going to bring buyers to the system, I'm better off to just manage a private sale.
Either way, it should definitely be called something different. Labeling the area "All Authors" is misleading, to say the least.

I'm not sure what you mean about the list benefiting writers who scout buyers on their own. I know many of us try to find freelance work other ways; I do. But, I'm not going to tell a potential customer that I find on my own to go over to CC and post a request to me there -- why would I do that? Give CC 35% for a job I landed on my own? I love CC but...
In my opinion, I don't think the author's list is that big of a deal. I wouldn't stress on it. Customers don't browse the list and pick an author randomly from it.
If the wording is what's bugging you, perhaps you could suggest they change it to "Established Authors" or something like that.

I understand the logic behind the Authors List. Those writers that are selling deserve to be on the list.
Also with marketing I do the same as Celeste. If I get my own customers in South Africa from my own marketing efforts I don't use CC. However I do market myself overseas but refer respondents to my work on CC and if I get a request they would have to go through CC.
I'm willing to pay CC for their services of hosting and editing for overseas clients, even if I found the client. I'd rather write than debt collect and CC handles the other divisions of my writing "company".
As I've now sold two full rights in under thirty days I'm aiming big time to get onto that jolly old list.
I guess once I've sold lots like you Celeste the list may not be so important. Right now though, to me as a neophyte, it's the first goal in the game

Annetta,
That is a GREAT goal. I did the same thing when I first started. My first goal was to get accepted, then to sell my first article, then the authors list, and finally the top-selling list (or the other one, but I pretty much knew I would not make that one). It took months, but I made it. The feeling is a great one & I hope you reach your first goal REAL soon!
GOOD LUCK to you!!!

I didn't mean it's not a big deal to get listed... it is - that means you are selling!
The other guy seemed to be stressing on the list as if being listed somehow gave writers an advantage over those who aren't. In that aspect, the list isn't a big deal because customers don't randomly pick writers and assign them jobs. That's what I meant.

If I were a buyer of content I would put quite a bit of value on the Author's List as that indicates to me, as a buyer, that those authors were the ones that knew what to produce for sale.
It's really an exposure thing. If you're selling and on the list then you know what you're doing. If you're not on the list you're either not selling or are inactive.
If I'm a first time buyer to CC, evidence of an author's production/sales record would show up on the Author's List. If there are ten top-notch authors on the list why bother wading through other names?
The Authors List is an excellent incentive. It makes me work harder to get there as it's a tangible goal. Plus by producing better work means we're able to continually raise standards for our customers and ourselves.
