I have had one (my first submission) article rejected - for reasons I have as yet been unable to fathom - therefore this post will no doubt be considered "sour grapes". However, I feel I must write because I have read here frequently about the high standards of CC and the required quality of articles, yet the featured article on today's front page by Beconrad exhibits a glaring spelling mistake in the second paragraph!

Am I beginning to smell something fishy?

Please understand that the editors at CC are only human - if a mistake slips past in one author's work, it is simply a mistake. However, that is not a reason to ignore mistakes when we do see them. Authors are responsible for ensuring quality and accuracy in their work. The editors' job is to find submissions that do not meet our standards. However, as we see hundreds of submissions every day, it is not possible to catch every mistake. Please try to be patient.

Isilda, please be patient with the editors. They work really hard and use a lot of patience dealing with all of us. My first article was rejected because of "comma" useage. I was very surprised. I knew how to use commas (at least I thought I knew). However, I reread the article. had someone else (a former school teacher) read the article, went online and searched out help on "commas" and read it thoroughly. Then I went through my article again. I took out a bunch of commas and resubmitted. The next time it was accepted. I now have five articles that have been accepted. Even though nothing has sold I am trying to be patient with that also. In fact, I may write an article on being patient.

Thanks Ed. I'll work on some tips!! My husband tells me I am impatient so I try to work on it.

I am assuming the site slow down is only temporary. Hopefully???

The editors don't play favorites, I get reject notices from time to time. They keep me humble and help me learn. I now know to put my punctuation marks inside the quotes and many other finicky grammar and punctuation rules that I've been misusing for all these years!

Sure, they may miss a few mistakes but it doesn't justify letting something they do catch go. They don't see a glaring error in my work and say, "We'll let this one slide because Celeste wrote it." They send me a reject notice just like everyone else gets. I'm sure Word Gypsy and bconrad also get reject notices. Hang in there, it gets easier as you learn the ropes and editorial requirements.
