Unique Rights Question

Post by Shane Dayton »

Sorry if this is covered somewhere, but my question about unique rights is: is this just a guarantee that you won't reprint a story online anywhere, or does it also apply to print rights.

The reason I ask is I have the chance to publish an old travel story in a journal, which would be print only, but it was sold for unique rights here on CC. Is that a conflict of interest, or is it all right as long as no one publishes the story online?

Thanks for the help!

Nope, you can't resell it. It's my understanding that the customer bought all rights to it but have agreed to give you the byline under the unique license.

All right, thanks for the quick response, Celeste. I wasn't clear on that and it's good to know - that's why I asked the question :) That's fine, I have other Alaska articles I'm sure can do the trick just fine.
