example pricing list
Sorry I am about to submit an article and I was trying to price it appropriately. I came a cross a sample price list on the site somewhere the other day but can't find it today. Can someone please tell me where it is?
Thanks

I've noticed that as well, Brian. Typically, I base my pricing off receiving $0.05 per word or more (after CC's cut). Still, I will vary what I charge based upon how much work I put into the article. For instance, one 500-word article may take me 30 minutes to research and write, while another article of the same length may take me an hour, so I would probably not be charging the same price for those articles. I'm not sure if my prices would be considered underselling to other writers, but I feel that I usually get paid enough to compensate for the time I put into writing. It's always a shame to see writers severely undersell their work, especially if they think that's the only way to get their name out there.
Writers shouldn't be pricing their work by the time it takes. It should be priced by the word. Ten cents a word is a good price and what I usually ask for exclusive rights. Useage is less and fullrights are more. There is the odd time I will cut my price for a request, but usually stick to this as it is cheap by freelancing prices as it is.
At one time we got better money for our articles here at CC, but people asking such cheap prices has had an effect on it. We should all be asking the same minimum prices. Please use the chart provided by CC to price your articles. This will help us all in the long run.
The people who sell their articles for less are, I believe, those who write for a hobby. They are making pocket money. Then there are others, like myself, who do this for a living. Hard to make a living at $2 an article like one I saw go through recently.

I have been putting higher prices on my articles (because as when I first got here, I didn't think my articles were worth much!), and consequently have sold articles less frequently. At this point, I'm not sure what to do because I do need the money that I get from writing articles (so something is better than nothing) but I don't like underselling either. At this point, I don't know what to do.
Any suggestions?

Dorothy,
I noticed you sold one today for $40. Good for you. That is the price you should have received or even higher. Ten cents a word for exclusive is fair. I have had requesters ask me to drop my price and I will do that under certain circumstances. However, we don't want to undersell ourselves so badly that we are writing for nothing. CC's prices are far cheaper than anywhere else online. Use the price guide to price your articles is my suggestion.
