Italics in summary

Just got my first article accepted -- what fun! But here's the question: I see that the italics in my article don't appear in the summary, and after checking the forum, I gather that's always the case. The problem is that I feel the two ideas that are italicized really need to be emphasized -- and I want prospective buyers to spot those ideas in particular. Is there any way to accomplish that, e.g., putting the sentences in all caps just for purposes of the summary? I'm guessing that there can't be two version of the articles -- but is there any way for formatting to appear in the excerpts?

I think you can put the italicized words within quotation marks to emphasize them.

Okay, but if I do that, won't the quotation marks appear in the full article as well? I'm not sure that would make sense -- they're not foreign terms, or quotes, or anything else that would normally be in quotation marks.

The only thing that appears in the full article is whatever is on the document you uploaded. I seem to remember Ed or Celeste saying you could use italics in the Long Summary to denote that the word would be italiicized in your document.

Now I'm confused. I did italicize words in my long summary, exactly as they're italicized in the full article. The problem is the italics aren't showing up in the long summary. I gather from the forum that italics never show up in the long summary. Is that right?

I just went to the editing screen for my long summary, and it appears that while I can't italicize, I can change text to all caps if I want. Is it correct that that won't alter the actual article in any way? Is there any reason not to use all caps in the summary? It would be two sentences, one each in different parts of the article.

I think Debbi meant, "You can use quotation marks to denote italics." Yes, italics won't show, but there's no guarantee that customers would pick up on italicized words anyway. Just highlight that these points are covered in the short summary so that customers know you emphasize them.

D'oh, thanks Ed. I did mean quotation marks. It's Friday and my brain is taking an early vacation!

Thank you both -- now I get it. One problem was I forgot I actually uploaded the excerpt separately from the article, so what's in the summary can be different from what's in the full article. What I just did was capitalize the words I want to emphasize in the excerpt, then noted at the bottom that the caps will appears as itals in the full article. If anyone wants to take a look and let me know how it looks, I'd be grateful. The article's called "What . . . in a Glucometer." Comments on the price are also welcome.
