Third time unlucky?

Post by ameliemaldon »

Hi guys,

I'm new to CC and am hoping someone can clarify the policy on site banning for me.

I've read on the forum after three rejections a writer can be banned from the site. I can't see reference to this anywhere in the FAQs or other parts of the site, but I may just be missing it!

Is this a definite rule, or just something that CC may do at their own discretion?

I've had my first two articles rejected.

When I first started, I didn't do too well! My suggestion is to step back and take a look at your work. I'm getting better at the proofing process, but I had to start out really taking a look at my work and slowing down. There are so many online content places that throw out crap, and I write for some of them. It's easy to get into the groove of an anonymous editor who will fix your mistakes.

So, I suggest analyzing the editor's notes and asking if you see the errors. If you go through the article and can't see what he's talking about, do some research. Take a break if ya need to. (I had to do it myself..helps with the frustration :D )

The three-time rule is not hardcore, but if you're new, you might want to step back and analyze what you're doing wrong, ya know?

Thanks Lysis,

I think I definately need to take a few days then have a long hard look at what I'm submitting.

I've never had to edit work before, so it is a good opportunity to start learing to do so!

If you're new to the whole deal, my personal suggestion is Helium for practice. I write all over the place, but Helium is cool for a laid back place to practice a bit and get feedback.

Hey, to the person who answered this question originally, I want to ask you something. The way you talk, your writing has been rejected three times. Well have you ever had anyone on here accept any of your writings after that? Have you ever been paid after that? From what I understand, you can keep putting stuff on here, but it just won't get accepted. Of course I don't know who would want to do that if you knew your writing would never be accepted after that. I was just wondering if it might be posted for all to see but no one could buy it.

I'm not sure I understand your question but I'll attempt to answer. Only articles that have been accepted by CC's editors are posted on the site, so only accepted articles can be viewed and purchased. Writers can NOT keep submitting articles once their account has been suspended which CAN happen after three rejected articles. Many of us have received article rejections here, made the corrections, resubmitted the article, and then later sold the article.

I'm not sure I understand the question either.

To answer this - yes. Plenty of times! I'm anal in the proofing process now! Seriously, if anything even sounds weird to me, I change it.

CC pays on time and has even paid me (all of us) on a Sunday.

I don't fully understand the question either, but one thing I don't do is resubmit the same article too many times. It's only happened twice now, but after the second rejection, I just figure it ain't gonna happen and get my little fingers typing on something else. :D

I think there might be some confusion over terminology here. When CC authors say "accepted", we mean that the article we submitted to the CC editors to review were approved for viewing by the buyers. The editors can "reject" our articles, in other words, return them to us for a rewrite, then review them after we fix them and resubmit, and either accept or reject them for buyer viewing. If accepted (approved for sale), the articles go into the big slush pile for buyers to look at and consider whether they want to buy them.

If you are new and unproven, the CC editor might decide that you are not quite skillful enough in grammar or puncutaion, and offer you some chances to improve. Iif you don't improve, the editor has the choice to suspend you forever.

Sometimes even a little thing may result in a rejection, but little things are eager to give one away once one refuses to give them all the respect of the world and then some. Trust me, a "definately" definitely makes an editor jump out of her/his seat and sets her/him on galactic trajectories. I do this as well with a little less intensity and I ain't an editor. I suggest to use a spellchecker program, it is a very comfy and effective method to refrain from everyday average spelling mistakes, you just need some eyeball time to scan for the red lines.

As for the cosmic horror of three consecutive rejections, I think it is a good idea to give the text some time on its own without you or anyone else scrutinizing in, then do a fresh random article in order to put your mind on something else. Submit your new, rigorously proofread stuff, then CC will think you are highly legit and there are chances that the next time you send your previously rejected stuff, CC will show you increased amount of mercy which is what everyone is looking for in such a situation.
