Why don't public requests show up?
Sometimes I've noticed that a public request we all receive in our inbox does not show up in the list you choose from on the submission form. Why is this? I have told support, but support has never yet to date ever replied to any of my emails

I have noticed this as well. I just assume that the client placed the order and then either found what he/she wanted or for some other reason decided to cancel the order. The automated notification that goes to each of our email addresses likely was activated as soon as the client placed the order but the order was canceled before we received the notification, as it takes some time before the notifications reach our inboxes.

That's exactly right. Because our mailing list is so big, we send it out over a few hours, so as not to bog down the system. This, sometimes, can result in requests being filled, or canceled before the email notification of the request reaches everyone. This is fairly rare, but it does happen.

I guess the answer to that is not to rely on the emails but check the site list a few times a day.
Re: Why don't public requests show up?
Hmm..well, the last one I did for a public request was the one about heavy drinking and teens. I got the email and got the article done in a couple of days or so and when I submitted it the request was not in the list. Isn't there a deadline? It was my understanding that the request is posted, a deadline is given, writers submit articles and *then*, after the deadline, the choice is made as to which the buyer will buy (if any)? It's not even likley anyone who also write an article on this topic would have even had their article reviewed by this time - not unless they wrote it in 24 hours and Ed parsed it in the following 24...
I think the request must have been cancelled, not filled. Anyway, I will check the list next time
Thanks all.

Deadlines are often set way out and do not reflect when the buyer will make a decision. The buyer can close a request anytime. In some cases the buyer could even get what they need before Ed reviews any submissions because an author can submit existing approved articles to the request.
If the request is pulled or filled just submit anyway. Someone will buy it.
