Titles

Post by mattjbiggin »

HI,

I have a quick query regarding titles. I want to write an article about a visit I made to a historical place (i.e. a castle - it's not a castle, but along a similar vein). I was just wondering an appropriate way to title it, like - Visit To X, or should it be more specific, and also, what category to place it under - historical maybe?

If anyone could help me out I'd appreciate it muchly.

Thanks,

Matt

Howdy, Matt.

In my opinion, your title is of secondary importance to your use of keywords in the submission panel (that little box down at the bottom). Load that box with as many words as you can: travel, traveling, history, historical places, museum, museums, vacation, vacations, family vacation, trip planning, sightseeing, tour, adventure, landmark, landmarks, name of country, name of region, name of another nearby landmark, name of nearby large city...

You get my point with all that. Now, go back up to your short summary box and work a few of those words into the short summary WITHOUT overloading it with keywords:

"This short article describes a sightseeing adventure to Dracula's castle in Translyvania. Family vacations to Bavaria would not be complete without a tour of this historic landmark. Readers planning a trip to Europe will find this museum educational and perhaps a little scary."

You can do better than that, but it's an example. And I'd categorize the article under Recreation > Travel unless it's more of an historical treatment; depends on your angle.

Let us know how it works out!

Title - Visiting Dracula's Castle (think about what people would enter in a search engine - customers will appreciate that)
I want to write an article about a visit I made to a historical place
Remember, CC does not accept first person point of view so avoid a travelogue piece and focus on the reader's point of view. Instead of, "When we toured Romania, we knew we'd need to spend at least two days at Dracula's castle" write "When touring Romania, plan on spending at least two days at Dracula's castle."
