It is my understanding that CC has very strict requirements for quality. How does that work out if you are trying to submit a more relaxed, casual blog type
entry?
Is this simply not a good platform for that type of work, or is that taken into account with CC's editors?
I wanted to do series of blog-type movie reviews, but I don't want to risk too many rejections.

If you're planning on writing, "Yo, this movie was da bomb," then that's too casual. CC allows us to use a conversational voice as long as it's professional. In fact, we're encouraged to use second person voice here.
For example, something like the following would likely be accepted here:
"If you're into action movies, you're in for a treat. SuperHero II will have your heart pumping and your head spinning."
