Question for Veteran CCers

Do you have any words of wisdom or observations about average hits to your articles that have sold? I know some sell right off, especially if they were written for a request. I'm interested in hearing about your experiences with articles you've submitted that weren't for requests. How many hits have you had on your unsold pieces?

The range is from a lot to a very few. It depends on a lot of factors like:

-did it get on the front page
-is it an enticing title/topic
-are other authors looking at the article
-the phases of the moon

I would not worry about # of hits at all. It is just not very useful info. You want to be writing the next article not worrying about the ones sitting out there for sale.

I don't pay much attention to hits. When I'm obsessing over CC, it's usually more focused on what topics are selling - not which ones aren't.

Thanks, guys. I was wondering because I've noticed that although most of the topics I've submitted were for requests, some have had just a single look, while others have had 30. It seemed like a huge variation, and it got me wondering if sometimes articles can get hundreds of looks without ever selling.

Oh definitely, they can! Some articles just don't have the widespread appeal that others have. But really, a lot has to do with whether or not an article appears on the Home page of CC (in which case a lot of fellow writers will check it out so keep that in mind too). For example, an article for a public request is held for three days exclusively before it's released to the general catalog if not purchased. By that time, it's old enough that it's further down the list as far as "new" submissions go. So, it will be less likely to appear as "new content." Regardless, curious clicks aren't as good as clicks based on targeted searches, so hits really don't matter. What matters is if a hit is from a serious buyer or not.
