Pricing for finance topics?

Post by DavidLewis »

When I do a cursory glance at finance articles, I'm seeing them priced at around $30 to $50 on average. Of course, some are higher. I think word counts are ranging between 400 and 600 words. To me, that seems quite cheap once you figure in the 35 percent commission. Am I missing something or are many writers working for 5 cents a word? Does anyone consistently sell articles for more than this? I was thinking of pricing at 12 to 15 cents per word for well-researched articles and factoring in my expertise. Does this seem too high?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

You can always lower--or raise--your prices if your articles aren't selling to your liking. Keep in mind that writers with a large portfolio (100 or more) generally sell between 60 and 70 percent of their on-spec articles, and some articles sell months or even years after being posted. Be patient, build your base, and adjust your prices if you need to.
