Question about Images

Post by ShelbyThomas »

I've written an article for a public request and am about to submit it. There was a downloadable Writers Style Guide pdf at the bottom of the request. At the bottom of the guide, it said:

"IMAGES
Must have a resolution of 300dpi and no less
Please include a caption and any copyright details and name of the
photographer for every image submitted."

Nowhere else is there a mention of images or clarification about them. I left a note but haven't heard back. Are images required for this, and if so, what sources are acceptable and how many are needed?

Thanks!

Which request is it? Is it possible this is a stock "guidelines" doc the company issues to various writers whether or not images are required?

Every now and then I'll have a CC client that wants images, but the system really isn't set up for that and many stock photo licenses aren't transferrable. What I usually do is go to Fotolia or iStockphoto and find a few to suggest and then provide the client with links. The client can then make a decision independently and purchase the photos directly - and I stay out of the equation. That's worked well so far.

Hi Celeste. Thanks for your response. It was the French culture and lifestyle request.

Yes, it could just be a stock guideline. I think I will give the client a link or two as you suggest. I just didn't want the lack of a photo to put me out of the running for this request.

The guidelines ask for Garamond font, but CC asks us to use Arial or Times New Roman for submissions for CC articles in general. I'm not sure CC will approve the article if I send it in Garamond. Also, the guidelines ask for the introductory paragraph to be italicized. Which takes precedent, the CC guidelines or the client guidelines?

If the client wants a particular font or text style, just put a note in the short summary for the editors such as "Note to editor: Garamond font and italicized first paragraph per customer request." They understand and will appreciate the note alerting them to the deviation.

From reading the guidelines, it sounds as though images are optional and that if you submit images, then you must conform to the specs.

Unfortunately, I still can't read the guidelines for this request. I have brought it to the attention of Eric
so it will probably be fixed soon.
