I have read that we can make minor changes, like fixing a misspelled word, to accepted articles. I understand that this is done by deleting the article, making the change, and resubmitting it with an explanatory note in the short summary.
Can we use the same procedure to make a major change, like rewriting the last paragraph or two? Assume the article has not been published elsewhere or sold for usage rights.

You can make whatever changes you like in this way, as long as the article hasn't sold. But expect that the greater the changes, the longer it might take to get through the review process again.
