I'm a college student majoring in English and I have taken multiple writing courses. I've discovered that I really enjoy writing, and would like to pursue this interest on the side while I work towards my main career goal of being a physician (I'm also a pre-medical student). I can see several advantages to CC: it gives a place to hone my writing skills, is a potential source of income, and could be fun, too.
My question is: can online freelancing (CC in particular) offer anything in respect to long-term career goals? Will having published articles here make it any easier to get published in a local newspaper, magazine, or similar venue? Will it be anything that could carry any weight in a application or interview (specifically for medical school)?
I'm looking forward to hearing your speculations or experience with this. Thanks so much

Hi and welcome
I understand that because CC becomes a shop window for the articles you write, it is quite possible that you could start to get private requests from clients. Many writers on here earn a steady income that way. I can't see why you would not be able to ask them for a reference should you establish a successful long-term working relationship.
