Question from Newbie

Post by NicWrites »

Hi all!

I am learning to love this site! I have been around for about two weeks, and have sold two articles. My question is this. What topics do well when you are writing and not responding to a request? I am curious what to build my "library" so to speak with. What topics tend to sell well here?

Thank you for your suggestions!

When I started I simply checked to see what was selling on a daily basis and tried to write accordingly when I could (I still do this). For instance, poker was a hot seller back then, but as I have zero interest in that topic, I refrained from writing for that category. I think it's about finding your own niche based on what topics you're comfortable with, reasonably knowledgable about, or willing to research.

But building a library I think is key. As requests come in I often have something of interest for a client already posted. I started by writing about my hobbies--book reviews, crafts, interests and things sort of took off from there. My work is probably more varied these days but I still like to revisit my comfort zone topics. Sometimes they sell fast and sometimes it takes months.

I would simply scour the site and see what's going at any given time. Topics might be hot for a month and then cool only to get hot again three months later. We're all in the same boat--it's a guessing game. What's gonna sell? There's no formula, but if you watch closely, you'll see some selling patterns evolve.

Good luck. Remain patient and keep writing. JA

Thank you so much. You all seem like very nice people to work along side. I have been at other sites that were very much like vultures and not helpful at all.

I am also building my library. Nic, I've been here twice as long as you, four weeks, almost. I have also found this forum and it's users very friendly.

J.A. 's advice is good, scour the site.

As I type, I'm nervously waiting an approval on something I do know alot about. I just wonder if Ed is going to like it. I hope it makes the cut. Really at this point, I hope Ed can make sense of what I wrote. We'll see.
