Delete Document is gone?

Post by Lor »

I know CC had a problem with articles without documents. But I can only assume those articles were old and possibly things worked differently then. The ability for writers to delete their documents once the article has been reviewed and accepted is not there now.

That being said, I just noticed the "delete document" feature on our edit pages has disappeared. No more delete/replace. I can only say "Darn it. I liked that."

I'm sure it's a pain for Ed to open up a dud. I sent a blank myself a while back, but while he was opening the article, I was in the middle of replacing it without the typo I found.

Does this have something to do with the fear of getting more articles without documents?
Wouldn't it be better to have a feature on the submit page that won't let you submit if there is no document attached? (Perhaps that's there.:) If there is no attached document, perhaps something that will disallow Ed to open it right away and not waste his time? I have no problem going to the back of the queue, but it would be nice if we could save all the other info we keyed in. Nobody wants to waste Ed's time. But perhaps there's some way to keep this feature without doing that?

We were never able to delete or upload documents once the article was approved - only while in review. With this change, the end result is the same - while an article is under review, you can upload a fresh copy which apparently replaces the original and the article remains in the queue for Ed's approval. The only difference that I can see is that there are fewer steps to follow. That is, you don't have to first delete the original file before uploading the new one.

Before, if the article was already approved and you later noticed a minor typo or wanted to add a new thought, you'd have to completely delete the article and resubmit from scratch. This is still true. The Delete button remains for approved articles. We were never able to change approved articles (except for the pricing/summary info/keywords) before and still aren't able to.

What I noticed this am, is that the ability to delete prior to review was gone. It wasn't there and I know I've done this before. NO, not after approval, but before Ed even gets to it. It was like a delete and replace system. Take another look at yours, Celeste, please. Maybe it's just me. I saw no delete button whatsoever. I could submit a second if I wanted to, but no way to remove any, other than deleting the whole thing and queuing up again.

Edited to add.

Ah, I misread. So you're saying the replacement is automatic? No delete button necessary. If so, thanks for that, but how did you figure that out? :)

That's how I interpret it anyway. I haven't had a reason to try it out just yet. Guess we'll find out soon enough.

I've done this in the past and it worked ok. It was soon after I submitted that I realised something was wrong, put it right and changed the file without using a delete button.

After uploading my document, and before it was reviewed, I noticed a couple of mistakes.

I corrected them and uploaded the changed document, which worked fine.

But now there are two files shown associated with the article, both with the same name.

There doesn't seem to be any way to delete the old one or cause it to be replaced.

Any suggestions as to what, if anything, I should do about this?

I doubt that both articles will be attributed, but Ed will catch them. If something is wrong, the worst that can happen is that you'll have to resubmit.

The submission must only include one version of the document. Neither I nor customers will know which document is the final version. Please delete the submission and resubmit.
