Payments and fes

I got my first article sold through CC. I am feeling quite happy at the success, though I must say the article probably languished for a number of months before getting noticed.

Euphoric, I went to my account to find that of the $50 the customer paid for full rights, only $32.50 were transferred to my account. In other words, 35% of the article price has been deducted. Is that the norm?

I am sure this is a very mundane question, and the answer is just staring at me. But I am sorry I couldn't find it out. Is there a document which explains what actually an author gets to keep out of the sales?

Hi,
CC gets 35%, writers get 65%. If I recall, this information is found in the terms of service and the agreements when signing up for an account. A reminder is also included on the article submission form. When you submit an article there's a reminder within the form about the cut along with a note to set prices accordingly.

Hi,

Congratulations on the sale.

I find that because I don't have to spend time in marketing my writing to potential clients, writing cover letters, or basically begging publishers to have a look at the articles, the percentage CC deducts is extremely fair. I figure the 35% is just covering the costs of advertising and marketing my work as an author to potential clients. It also covers the costs of Ed reviewing all works and only allowing quality work on the site. This means that authors can actually charge more because customers know that they are receiving guaranteed original works of good quality.

In any business there is a fee of some kind for service, but the money is well worth it in Constant Content's case. They also work to protect us authors from copyright theft, pay regularly through Paypal and generally look after their authors, as well as provide an easy market to customers for us to sell our articles to. It works!

kind regards,

Hayley

Thanks, HayleyWriter. I do not understand much about this business, I am just a new writer, however, whatever you say makes sense to me. I do not have any complaints about the cut taken by CC, it is just that I did not recall the terms when I saw the actual money I made, so the cut seemed unexpectedly high to me. But Celeste's confirmation and your opinion have set my mind at rest. Thanks to both.

Warm Regards
Sanjay
