Hello! Newbie here.
What is the turn-around time for reviews?
Thanks,
Meggie

It depends on the number of articles submitted before yours, the number of articles submitted for public requests, and the time constraints of our resident editor. Other factors also come into play, but it could be anywhere between twenty-four hours and six days.
If we were to average one article submission a day times one hundred active authors, the amount of reading our editor has to do is staggering. Some people submit three to five a day - so we could be talking three to five hundred submissions in a single day. Imagine reading as much as you can every day, and then having to catch up on backlog along with current submissions. I doubt it's as much as one to five hundred a day, but you get the point (and I imagine some days do see that many which creates an even bigger backlog). All it would take is a down internet connection or a code error and Ed could be swamped for weeks.

While the volume of submissions is not quite to that point, this is about accurate.
Some weeks more factors come into play, some weeks less. This has been an especially tough week. But HQ has been very helpful in making small improvements here and there so we don't enter into swamp territory.
Because rejecting articles invariably takes more time than accepting articles (especially when inadequate revisions may be resubmitted), authors can do their part by submitting articles that conform to our guidelines, are written in a clear manner, and are error-free.
Thanks,
Ed
