Strange Case of the Disappearing Article ...

At first, I thought I was imagining things. My article was not visible on the page listing all my writing. I submitted it for review only to have it returned to me twice. Actually, the items targeted for correction were out of my control. I fixed it once again and resubmitted for a public request. The message at the top of the page said that my submission was successful and the article was listed with my others. A couple of hours later, I went back to correct a spelling (which could have been right either way) and the article was no longer in my listings/edit/review/sold box.

I sent two requests to Support to help me locate the article and still have not heard back from them. Has anyone else had this experience or will this remain the "Strange Case of the Disappearing Article" forever?

I need the advice of a "techie" for an unusual situation. I have Microsoft Office 2007 and use it for building all of my articles. They are then saved in .doc format with my other documents. The article, however, uploaded to Constant Content with .docx trailing - which I could not see in the tiny window. Of course, it was rejected on the grounds that .docx was not a supported format. I checked the folder within My Documents and the extension was clearly .doc which is an accepted format. So, where did the additional letter come from? After I changed the format to .txt [without the knowledge about the alteration of format] it was rejected again. Since the content was fine, I fixed the format and re-submitted for a public deadline of April 1.

The article disappeared in spite of the fact that .txt is a supported format and I had fixed as many technical issues as I possibly could find! I contacted Support, but I think it was abducted by aliens. Should I try to submit it again?

Docx is the default extension of Word 2007, so you have to specifically save it as a doc file to save it in the old format. There is a setting that will force it to default to .doc. If it was doc on your computer, I don't know how the ext would get changed uploading it.

To save in .doc in Word 2007, go to the Office button (upper left of screen) and pick Save As> Word 97-2003.

Thanks for the help! Somehow, I'm so happy to be an un-techie! So, hopefully, there is someplace to store that setting so that it happens automatically.

Yes, you can change this by going into the Office Button> Word Options button and click on the "Save" link in the left side list. Next, under "Save files in this format" choose Word 97-2003 *.doc. Click OK and all of your future documents will be in the trusty old .doc format.
