First Offer! How do I accept it or counter it?

Hi CC Folks. Sorry to be a bore with what maybe a dumb question, but I searched everywhere, to no avail, for this clear instruction and it seems really important to get things "right" around here. I am super excited and I don't want to lose the offer or break any rules.

All I found was the actual offer page and I changed the status to "Accepted". Is that right? Is that all I need to do to communicate acceptance to the client?

If the answer is yes, then what would I need to do in the event I want to counter an offer of does that option even exist on CC. I hope it does because I love to haggle:-).

Anyway, thanks for taking the time out to answer. Right now yes or no will be greatly appreciated. Thank You
MAMCBETH

As far as I'm aware, accepting or rejecting an offer will send a message to the customer to let them know. After that, they should come along and buy the article, but they may not. I've had sales up to a week after accepting an offer, but I've also had no sales at all after accepting offers so it seems that accepting an offer doesn't automatically mean that the customer will buy the article.

I don't think that you can actually counteract an offer. Technically speaking, the customer may come back with another offer but this has never happened to me. When I've rejected an offer, that's been it as far as the customer is concerned.

Congratulations on your first offer! :o)

When you log in to your account, there's a link for "Received Offers" where you can either accept or reject offers from buyers. You got it right the first time -- changing the status to Accepted. That lets the buyer know you accept the price he/she offered you for your article. However, like what SallyA wrote, the buyer may still not buy it even after you accept the offer.

CC doesn't have a counter offer function. I suggested this feature a couple of weeks ago...I've been wishing we have this function instead of rejecting offers outright. Here's the link to the discussion -- perhaps you can add your voice to that wish list ;o)

Congrats again!

My first offer, which came to my first article, within two hours of getting it accepted was for 50 dollars, while the article itself was put at about 100 dollars or so. I saw the offer, wanted to reject it. I saw that the customer email address was also mentioned. I emailed him personally and mentioned that I can accept the offer at 70 dollars or more. (there is of course no question of more). Then I, with the consent of the customer, rejected the offer, and he offered 70 dollars. Which I accepted and the sale went through. This is what I guess you can do. Look at your offer to see the email of the customer.

It is not permitted to email the customer directly. Any communication must go through the CC system.

Thanks.

Oh no. I thought it's wrong only to sell outside of CC. I thought CC provided us with the customer email for the purpose of a conversation to set a better price. Well, I am wrong as I see. Oops! Don't take that previous advice pls. Thanks Ed

Lenin,

You will notice that CC no longer provides the customer's email address on the best offers. Currently, there is no way for authors to contact the customer who made the offer. While this is good for the protection of the site, as authors cannot make private contact with customers and possibly drive the customers away from CC, it means there is no other option available to authors besides choosing "Accept" or "Reject" on the offer. Several authors are campaigning within the forums for an option to send a message back to the customer who made the offer through the CC site only explaining why that offer was refused and what price would be acceptable (counter-offer). It hasn't happened yet, but I haven't given up hope that it will eventually be offered. I certainly do not want to circumvent the CC system, but it would be lovely to have the opportunity to "negotiate" prices with customers when the best offer system is used, or at least explain why the offer was rejected.

Just for the record, I would also like to have an option to send a message to the customer if I feel I must reject an offer.

But I do have one good experience to report: when I rejected an offer I felt was too low, the customer returned a few days later and purchased at my asking price.
