Under the "About Us" tab a factoid states over 20,000 authors have registered.

"20,000 authors" is meaningless with additional information, so here are my questions:

1. How many Publishers have registered?
2. How many articles have been sold?
3. How many Photos, videos and illustrations have been sold?
4. When did this site start operating?

I can't give you all the details as I have only been writing here for a year. However, here are some ideas on your questions:

1 - No idea on how many publishers, but it only takes 1 to buy your article. There are many different customers purchasing my articles and I know that CC actively advertises to generate sales. From an author's point of view, there are enough people using CC to purchase articles to make writing here worthwhile.

2 - While we do not have exact numbers on how many articles have been sold, the order number is currently in the middle of the 13600s. Assuming that the order numbers started at 1, you could assume that at least 13600 articles have been sold. Some customers will buy a batch of articles on the same order number, so the actual number of articles sold would be at least 20,000 by my reckoning.

3 - You can actually see how many of these have sold (not many) by the recently sold lists on those sections.

4 - I believe it started in 2005, but I'm sure someone who was here in the beginning will chime in and correct me if I am wrong.

What you are really asking is CC worth submitting work to as an author. My answer is a resounding YES! for articles, but I don't think the sales of the multi-media products are very high at present.
