Mystery rejection...changing font?

I just had two puzzling rejections today, saying something like "Please do not submit articles in fonts that are not described in our guidelines. Titles and subheadings must be able to be easily read." When I open the original article on my computer, they are both completely in Times New Roman...I even clicked through each line to make sure it doesn't change at any point. Has anyone else had this problem? My template is set up in Times, I always save in .rtf, and I haven't changed anything. I'm reluctant to re-submit until I figure out what's going on with the font...Ed is obviously seeing something on his end that doesn't show up in my original.

Hi Antonia,

I don't know what is happening here. It must have something to with what program you are using and how the program I am using is reading the font. I've never seen this particular problem happen before. When I copied your article into another word processing program, everything looked fine . . . it was the bold font that was the problem. If you can, can you try submitting one of your articles with subheadings in a .doc file type just for curiosity's sake? I can give you feedback here and then we can come up with a solution that works for both of us.

Thanks,
Ed

Okay, I just resubmitted "Dos and Don'ts..." in a doc format, without changing anything else. We'll see if that reads any better on your end!

I am kinda sick of Microsoft Word...am currently downloading a little Mac program called Textwrangler, so maybe that will solve any weird font issues going forward. Thanks for helping me with this, Ed...I know it must be time-consuming for you to get a batch of articles that have to be rejected...I promise, I wouldn't do it to you on purpose! :)

That seemed to remedy the problem. What an odd quirk. Thanks!

I have question that may or may not be related to this topic (I'll try and make it relevant). A client recently requested an article and asked for the format to be in plain txt.

Question is this: if a customer asks for a specific type of format, do we have to do the article in this format or can we submit it in Word.doc and someone in the editing team will make the changes. Sorry if this was off the topic, I thought it might have something to do with submitting in different styles or formatting.

Thanks,
Karl

Please make the submission in the requested format. You can do this by using the "save as" option when you go to save your article, and choose the desired file type from the drop-down menu.

Thanks,
Ed

I appreciate the info on saving articles in the correct format. I'll check this option out.

Thanks,
