Okay to link to website in author bio? NOPE.

Post by YawningDog »

I've been searching the forums and site for almost an hour and cannot find an answer (or barely a reference) to this: Are we allowed to put a link to our personal and/or business website in our author bios? I've looked over quite a few author bios and have not seen a link yet. I would prefer to format the website link, if allowed, to open in a new tab or window, and to read as website rather than http://www.mywebsite.com.

Is any of this possible or allowed?

Thanks!
Kate

Ed,

So you are considering Author Profiles as "content"? Just wanting to clarify. I'm assuming website links wouldn't be allowed in author profiles since it would be too tempting for the customer to contact the author through them, though they can just Google the author's name to find them (if they are that motivated).

Thanks Ed. :) Right, I do understand that and had seen it. What I'm asking is only about the bio, the "My Profile" link where one can upload an image and "about the author" blurb; just in there, not in submitted content for publication. Sorry for not being more clear about that in my first post!

Am I hallucinating or did Ed's answer disappear? LOL *confused*

And thanks, Debbi!

No, sorry. I misread, meant to modify my response, and then got sidetracked. Yeah, I think this is okay, though I don't think anyone's said anything official about it.

Thanks again, Ed! I'll try it and if I don't get booted off the site will assume it's okay for now. :D

Hmm, I thought website links in author bios weren't allowed too, since that's such an easy way of contacting an author directly?

Placing links in your Bio in NOT ok. It is essentially the same as providing contact information in a correspondence with a customer. We will delete any bios containing outside personal information.

Thanks
