New - Question about recycling content

Hi. I'm new here and have a question before I get started. As long as we're not selling unique or exclusive rights, are we able to recycle articles we've had previously published elsewhere provided we retain the rights? For example, if we've written articles for our own blogs, or had them published on a volunteer basis on websites, are we able to list them for sale here, or must each article be brand new when uploaded?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

You may ask "usage" rights for them, and the buyer will understand that it may have been or will be potentially published elsewhere.

You will also want to make sure you abide by the rights you sold to the original buyer (if any).

Hope this helps,
Ed

Thanks, Ed

Usage Rights for Material Written for Other Websites

I had the same question about pre-published non-exclusive rights material I did for another site. My concern is that, if I were to offer for usage (on CC) the same material I previously published (non-exclusively) on another site, wouldn't that be read by the 'plagiarism reviewer 'as if the material was copied and plagiarized? Especially if the previously published material was under another nom-de-plume.

Thank you.

Best,

Anthony

Just always communicate to the editors. Let them know any unusual things like that in the summary.

For example, I'm often asked to work on websites where I need to include some duplicate content such as instructor bios. This is content I have previously written but the courses use the same instructors over and over. For the customer's convenience I include these bios (I don't charge him for that) so he doesn't have to search through his stuff and cut and paste.

These paragraphs appear over and over on the site and at first glance would be considered plagierism. Copyscape would likely flag these paragraphs. But a quick note to the editor explaining the potential flag avoids problems. So, communicate with the editors beforehand and you will avoid many issues.

Celeste,

Thanks so much for taking the time to make that clear.

All best,
