I give the actual word count excluding the title, byline, short summary and keywords. That way no one can think I shorted them. I'm interested in what others do.

I just select the prose, word count it and round to the nearest 25. So 676 is 675. And 515 well, I'd probably round that down to 500. I like round numbers.

I used to do "text only" for the word count but I recently threw in the title and nothing seems better or worse. I don't think a few words matters that much.
Had more trouble with this dilemma with my college courses...

I include just the actual body of the article - no title, byline or short summary - and round down to the nearest five. (How generous am I
)

I also just word count the body of the article, but I never round the number - I worked hard writing those three or four words

With article limits set to 200 words, I need all the space I can get...so taking the title and byline from the count works for me!
