Spaces?

Hello all. I joined a few days ago and I am almost ready to submit my first article, but after reading many of the Q&A's from previous first timers I want to ensure I submit in the format preferred by ed.

So, the guidelines state "Times New Roman or Arial black font with single spaced paragraphs and a double space between paragraphs"

This confuses me. Between paragraphs do I leave two blank lines? (what I interpret as a double space) Do I also need to put [break] or similar?

Between the lines of text in anay particular paragraph do I leave a blank line? Or does single spaced mean no blank lines, just regular text typing?

If somebody could post an example of text in the correct format (ie with spaces and breaks in the right places)~ that would be extremely helpful.

Kind regards,

LMartin.

This is an example of a single spaced paragraph. The sentences do not have breaks between them. It looks like this. Blah blah blahblah blahblah blahblah blahblah blahblah blahblah blahblah blahblah blahblah blahblah blah. Then when you get to the end, you will need to hit the enter key not once, but twice. The first time you hit the enter key, the cursor goes directly under the paragraph. The second time, it goes one space down.

This places a blank space between the paragraphs. Note that if you use MS Word 2007, the illusion of space is made when you hit the enter key just once. That's because the paragraph settings have been created with space built in. Unfortunately, when you copy and paste the text, the space is closed up and the illusion dissolves which results in no spaces at all between paragraphs. By hitting enter twice, the space will be placed there.

Hope this helps.

Thank you so much, that's exactly what I needed. Perhaps they could put an example of the preferred text format on the FAQ's? From looking through the questions on here it seems to be a common one to be asked and also a common reason for articles being rejected. Just an idea - if Ed's reading :D
