How do I correctly deal with a private offer for an existing article through the CC message system. The request has not come throughthe actual "offers" feature (the tab says I have no offers).

Thanks!

I had the same thing happen yesterday. It was my first offer on an article...and reasonable too! :-) I simply changed the price on the article and sent a reply that I had changed the price. I woke up this morning to find another offer on one that I actually had "or Best Offer" selected. This one was from a different buyer. I had the article priced at $60 usage and $75 full rights. They offered $15 usage! I refused, and they then offered $30 usage! I also refused that one! :-)

If you don't want to accept the offer, just message the customer and let them know that you can only sell them the article for the listed price - or if you're willing to drop your price by a few dollars, let them know what your bottom price is.

If you do want to accept the offer, message the customer, letting them know that you accept their offer and you will manually change the price on the article to reflect their price, and they can buy it at anytime - make sure you include a link to your article in your message. Then go and manually change the sale price of your article.

Here's an idea to follow Amy's suggestion: put a time limit on the price such as two or three days. That way, if the customer chooses not to do anything, you won't be stuck with a cheap price. If the time limit expires, change the price back.
