I'm just wondering about the following. I wrote a few articles specifically for a private request. The customer chose not to purchase it, and those articles were returned to the public pool. I find, however, that I can't "edit" (that is, download and re-upload) the original article like I thought I could

Am I allowed to delete the content and upload updated versions of the same articles?

Yes. Go to My Content, find the articles and click Delete. Confirm your choice.
