Difference between Rich Text and Text formatting?

I know this is probably a dumb question, but since everything I have written has been in MS Word (.doc format), I'm not exactly sure the difference between Text and Rich Text formatting. I know text formatting takes out all formatting, but that means it takes out paragraph breaks and all, too. Is this how it is supposed to be submitted, or are we supposed to re-write the article in text format? Is rich text OK to submit them in?

Rich text (.rtf) has always worked fine for my submissions. And whenever you need to submit as text (.txt) a quick copy and paste into your notepad should be sufficient. It always leaves my paragraphs in tact when I do it this way. The only problems I've had is trying to copy/paste spreadsheets and tables.

I hope this helps,
Mary

Thanx, but...

Thanx, but I tried copying and pasting and it came out all weird. If rich text works, then I'll just submit them like that, while I keep trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong with plain text. Thanx again.

I just submit in .doc format and its been fine (though I don't sub the 2007 version because noone else seems to be able to open them yet).

Thank you too.

Thank you, too. i appreciate it. Do you think there would be any probs if I submit both, or would that just be pointless?

Some people submit in .doc, .rtf, .txt, and .html, just to be on the safe side.

Rich text format (.rtf) keeps all your formatting, but it's easier for some computers to open.
