help! file download?

I had my first article rejected because I accidently sent my pre-editted article. This was my first time using an downloaded, new to me "notepad" . I accidently, after editing, moved the article back to my own program after checking it in Grammer checker plus, which I just recently downloaded. Well, I messed up and ended up sending the wrong article. My mess up, my fault, but,

now I am really really worried. I just recieved my second rejection. This is because I sent it in the wrong file. I am just not getting the file thing. Why are we sending a file? and, using Grammer checker plus or notepad to submit, how do I do it right?

I write for Helium and have for almost a year now, with no problem, but I just can't seem to get it right at CC, and I really like the professionalism of both. I haven't found any other site's that are this professional and I really want to be associated with professionalism on this site.

Can someone please help me? I am so worried my article will be rejected again, that I don't know what to do, but I do need to know about the file function, as I can't find anything about it here. Thanks so much to whoever can help...sorry I am babbling..it's a nerve thing...I am so worried, as I really like this site...and I love to write...and I am a nurse, so I have a lot of knowledge to help other people with..... Valerie

Hi,
We have to submit a file because that's what the customer receives and works off of. It's different than sites where articles are meant for online viewing only. In this case, customers need actual files so that they can put them to their intended use. In general, .doc, .docx, and .txt files are accepted. I'm not sure why you're copying to Notepad? Which word processor are you using? I use MS Word 2007 and submit in .doc format all the time with no issues. Just make sure to save your file right before uploading and pay attention to which file you select.

You mean that you change the format when you save the file or when you upload it to C.C? I'm not getting it. I write from word or I can use Grammer Expert which I downloaded from the internet. My notepad doesn't have a word count or a spell check. I do not have MS works or word. Only notepad. Thanks..I don't see any file like you suggested in notepad.

Any additional help will be appreciated. If anyone knows a good program on the internet, preferably a free one, that I can use to write in that has a count and spellcheck and is good to upload to CC, if that's what I have to do...thanks

I don't want to try it and then get rejected a third time and get kicked out.

Thanks for anyones help

I think you've found it - in any kind of writing program, whether Word, Notepad, WordPerfect (which I use), you can save your file as a different file type by going to Save As, then clicking on File Type. So if you're typing in Notepad, when you go to save your file, save it as a .txt or a .doc file. Then submit that .txt or .doc file to CC.

As for a good word processing program, you should try Open Office. I've never used it myself, but I've heard good things about it. A quick Google search should turn up all the info you need.

I would strongly suggest using Word or Open Office if you have access to them, but maybe that is just a matter of preference. In Word, you would complete the article, click the File tab, select save as...and select the file type. I personally save as .doc. I am not familiar with working in Notebook, though I believe the procedure would be similar. When you complete the article and click "save as" you should save it as either a .doc, .docx, or .txt file...so if it doesn't show .doc, yes, select the .txt. I personally don't suggest the .docx file save because some clients who do not have Windows 7 and Word 2010 may have difficulty opening them. When I first got Windows 7, I had a client who purchased my article, but then sent a message that she could not open the file because it was in .docx format.

To upload and save a file on the submission form, in the third field that says FILE, click browse and a window should pop up with your saved files. Click the file you want to upload and click open. This will place it in the submission form. Once you have completed the other steps on the submission form, click Save and you should get a message that your article was sent. Sorry if this seems oversimplified, I am just not exactly sure what you are asking so I figured I would go through it step by step! :D Hope all works out!
