Request Help With Commas

Post by FondRegards »

Hi
I am requesting comma help. I have been going back and forth with these sentences. I am not sure whether a comma belongs after 'anyone.' And, in the second sentence, I am not sure about putting a comma after 'it.'

They caution that too much salt is not good for anyone, and people should not wait for a diagnosis of HTN to cut back.

If your blood pressure is too high, at least you are aware of it, and you can begin following your doctor’s recommendations, including lowering your salt consumption.

Thank you.

Howdy!

In your first example, you're creating a compound sentence. You could remove the ", and" and replace it with a period like this: "anyone. People" and it would read right. So the comma is correct.

In your second example, the commas make it feel like a runon sentence (too many clauses strung together). Change it to read: "aware of it. You can" to take out the runon.

If you find you have trouble with commas, try removing them and making simple sentences instead. Web writing and simple statements are a match made in heaven!
