How Many Articles Each Day?

Good morning!

I am new to CC and very excited about finally stumbling across a website that allows a writer to earn with articles.

I have a quick question and I hope someone might be able to give me some help?

I am very new to freelance writing. I was wondering how many articles should I be writing each day? I know answers will probably come down to opinion but I am just looking for guidelines; I have no idea whether I should be writing two or ten!

Secondly, I know this depends on talent, but how often do people manage to sell their work on average? an article each week? ten each day? This doesn't concern me greatly as I will be writing constantly regardless. I am just curious.

Thank you in advance to any replies and I hope to share success with all of you soon!

Hi Hayley!
Knowing how many articles you can write in a day depends on your knowledge of a subject and how quickly you organize, compose and edit at the keyboard. I write many drafts whereas other writers zip through the process quickly, and accurately, on their first or second attempts.

As you write more, you'll get a better understanding of your strengths and weaknesses. Don't forget to include your research time as part of the writing process!

I think this depends on how much work you have available to sell. My experience with CC is that my articles are sold fairly quickly and regularly given the small inventory I have and provide. (Many CC writers maintain a large library of articles for buyers to choose from which increases their chances for selling more work.) If you build an article library with well-organized, well-written articles on popular topics, then you'll probably average a respectable number of CC sales each week.

If your question is referring to work outside of CC like print work, then the same principle applies, to have continuous sales you have to regularly mail out query letters and track leads.

Thank you for your quick response, Mary. :D

I will work to provide as many articles as I can, both on popular areas and areas that interest me. I will keep my fingers crossed and just hope that I write something that is of interest to a customer.

Hayley - forgot to mention CC's requested content section. That's a great place to see exactly what content customers want. Even if you don't sell to the customer, you'll have created an article that in a few weeks or months may sell to another customer. It's a good place to train your eye for which topics sell. (Well that and checking the Recently Sold listing each day!)
Better go work now. I'll be looking for you on the Recently Sold lists!

Hi, Hayley, and welcome aboard!

I make it a point to write 3 articles for Constant Content every weekday, before I do anything else. Writing is a job for me, so I try to treat it like one. Having a certain number of articles as a priority is a good way for me to make sure that I have an ever-increasing supply of articles for future customers to choose from.

Of course, at the same time, I generally only write on subjects I know inside-out, things that require (for me) little or no research. A different approach would be to decide to broaden your knowledge base by writing one research-intensive article per day, studying things you aren't familiar with and pulling them together into a cohesive article that teaches you as well as other people. Or, you could blend the two, writing one research-intensive article and one or two articles on subjects you know in your sleep.
