inclusion of quote in article/blog

Hi there

Is it permissible to include a (very short) quote in an article/blog, if I credit the 'author'? For example, I want to write an article/blog about perfectionism and have a very good quote which I found on the internet: can I include it in the article/blog?

Thanks.

Sure . . . that's fine. That is covered under "fair usage" rights. Just credit the author, like you said.

Thanks,
Ed

Many thanks. My next question... the quote will appear at the beginning of the article - or in the summary. Do I have to put it in quotes? Which of the following would get through?

"This is the quote I want to include." Author's name. Followed by text.

This is the quote I want to include. Author's name. Followed by text.

Continued thanks...

Couldn't you say John Doe said, "Quote here." Text continues?

I certainly could! Many thanks. Am becoming somewhat nervous (in that sort of 'aarrgghhhh' kind of way), as there seems to be tight regulations re quotes, and I've just realised that the article I re-submitted (2nd time) had single quotes around a word when I think I should've put double quotes around it. Oh well...

Thanks again.

Hey, Jane. Don't stress out too much. While the editorial requirements are VERY strict here, Ed and the other staff are also very understanding. As long as you're sincere about trying to get it right, a few mistakes are okay. The "three strikes you're out" policy seems to apply only to people who aren't sincere about improving.

So, yes. Be careful; proofread before you submit; familiarize yourself with CC's grammar policies. But don't stress out. They can tell when someone is just careless with their work or when they've just made an honest mistake. (Hugs and kisses to whoever caught that stupid typo in my article a few days ago, by the way!!)

Thanks, Keesa. I was thinking that was the way, too - CC want to us to get it right as much as we do.

I edited the article as it was in the 'under review' (or is that "under review"?!) section - as least I think I did, so am hoping that it's accepted now.

Thanks for your encouragement. Have a great day.
